Review Antivirus Webroot 2024, Yes or Nah?

Mytips.id - Webroot is a lightweight cloud-based antivirus program with a great malware scanner, excellent password manager, and some other decent additional features.

In my testing, the antivirus scanner caught 93.1% of malware samples that I hid on my device – while this is a good result, competitors like Norton and Bitdefender all achieved 100% malware detection rates in my testing.

Webroot also includes the following additional features: web and phishing protection, password manager (LastPass), identity protection, system optimization, and 25 GB of cloud storage.

The LastPass password manager included with Webroot is excellent – it is indeed one of the best password managers on the market.

However, the web protection, identity protection, and system optimization are not as robust as similar features from leading antivirus brands.

Additionally, Webroot lacks useful features such as parental controls, and its VPN is only available as a separate purchase.

Overall, Webroot may lack some additional features, but it is still a decent antivirus with minimal impact on system performance.

Webroot offers various payment packages covering 1, 3, or 5 Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS devices – and all Webroot packages come with a 70-day money-back guarantee, making it a more affordable option compared to other brands in the market.

Review Complete Mytips.id

Webroot is an affordable and lightweight antivirus scanner. It comes with a great password manager and some additional features, including web protection and system optimization.

The password manager is powered by LastPass (one of the top-rated password managers), but its web protection may not be reliable, and its system optimization might be too basic for most users.

Webroot offers packages that work on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS devices (although its mobile app is subpar) – and all packages come with a 70-day money-back guarantee.

Security Features of Webroot Antivirus

Webroot uses cloud-based malware directories and heuristic analysis to detect threats on your machine. Because it is cloud-based, it does not use much CPU and disk space when performing scans.

Webroot allows you to run various scans. For example, you can run a Deep Scan (scans for rootkits and other advanced threats), Full Scan (scans all your local hard drives), or Quick Scan (scans only high-risk areas). You can also scan individual folders/files and schedule these scans to run daily, weekly, or at boot.

To test the Webroot malware scanner, I downloaded and hid 1,000 test files across my devices, including trojans, spyware, keylogging malware, and rootkits. Webroot detected 93.1% of my test files and either removed them or quarantined them.

While this is a decent result, it's not as good as Norton or Bitdefender, both of which detected 100% of malware samples in similar testing conditions.

I also ran a ransomware simulator, and the results were not great. Webroot only blocked 5 out of 21 "threats". If the attack were real, 553 of my files could have been infected!

I would like to see Webroot improve its ransomware detection, especially considering competitors like McAfee detect 100% of ransomware files in our testing.

However, Webroot scans are much faster compared to its competitors - Webroot averages about 5 minutes per scan during 15 scans, which is very fast, even when compared to industry leaders like Norton. However, my internet connection significantly slowed down when Webroot ran its virus scans.

Overall, Webroot has a good antivirus scanner - fast, low CPU usage, and detected 93.1% of my malware samples during testing. My only complaint is that the scanner performed poorly in my ransomware simulation and full system scans could cause browsing delays.

Password Manager

Webroot also includes a subscription to LastPass - one of our top-rated password managers in 2024.

LastPass is a highly popular password manager that protects user data with unbreakable AES 256-bit encryption and zero-knowledge architecture, meaning your passwords are 100% safe and only you can access them (even LastPass does not have access to your vault).

LastPass is feature-rich and very user-friendly. It offers an intuitive online dashboard that houses your password vault, vault audit tools, and other additions.

In addition to the online dashboard, which you can access from any device or browser, LastPass also has browser extensions for Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Safari. These extensions make it easy to create and store new passwords, autofill saved logins, and manage stored credentials.

LastPass Premium includes several features, such as two-factor authentication (2FA), secure password sharing, password security auditing, account recovery options, emergency access, and dark web monitoring.

I particularly like LastPass 2FA feature, which allows users to enhance their master password with one-time password tools like Google Authenticator and USB tokens like YubiKey.

LastPass even includes its own TOTP generator that can automatically generate one-time passwords for compatible logins in your password vault.

For example, I set up LastPass to generate one-time passwords for my PayPal login. Every time I log into PayPal, LastPass automatically fills in my master password and the 6-digit TOTP.

LastPass also offers several secure account recovery options, which are helpful for users concerned about forgetting their master password and getting locked out of their password vault. LastPass offers biometric scans and can recover your previous master password or even send you a password reset code to help you regain access to your password vault.
